The story starts in the ancient city of Kahndaq, where a hero rises to fight injustice. Fast forward to now, Kahndaq faces trouble again from a bad group called Intergang. But Adrianna, played by Sarah Shahi, brings hope by awakening the hero, Teth Adam, played by Dwayne Johnson.

Teth knows he must save his people, but the 'Justice Society' doubts him because he's more of an 'anti-hero.' Like in many superhero stories, there's a powerful object (a crown here) that gives immense power. By the end, Teth becomes Black Adam, but the movie could have shown this transformation more excitingly.

Why I Watch Black Adam?

Black Adam (2022) can fall somewhere between tiers 3 and 4 on the DCEU recommendation list.

  • Why it might be a good choice: Black Adam is a fun action movie with impressive visuals. Dwayne Johnson is charismatic in the lead role, and the Justice Society of America adds a new element to the DCEU.
  • Things to consider: The story can be predictable, and the tone can be a bit uneven at times. There's also a fair amount of violence, so keep that in mind.

Ultimately, whether you enjoy Black Adam depends on your preferences. If you like big, loud superhero movies with a charismatic lead, you'll probably enjoy it. If you prefer a more complex story or a lighter tone, you might want to choose another movie on the list.

Movie Review: Storyline

Bringing an old hero into modern times sounds cool, especially with Dwayne Johnson, but the movie feels repetitive and kind of dull. The script by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani has all the superhero basics but lacks the wow factor of great special effects to really grab the audience.

Special effects are okay when Pierce Brosnan's Fate uses his powers, but they don't build enough suspense or excitement. The cinematography by Lawrence Sher tries to save the day, but it's not enough to keep you hooked till the end.

Movie Review: Acting

Dwayne Johnson proves you don't need huge muscles to be a superhero, but he struggles to juggle serious, confused, and funny moments, making his character a bit confusing.

Pierce Brosnan does his best with the chaotic story as Fate, but the other characters, like Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, don't bring anything new to the table.

Aldis Hodge's Hawkman and Sarah Shahi's Adrianna lack depth, and Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone doesn't stand out either.

Movie Review: Direction, Music

Director Jaume Collet-Serra plays it safe, trying to make a superhero movie after the Avengers' success, which is a tough act to follow.

The music by Lorne Balfe is forgettable, lacking any standout tunes. Even using The Good, The Bad & The Ugly soundtrack doesn't add much originality.

Movie Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Black Adam feels like it's too late to the superhero party, not bringing anything new to the table. Dwayne Johnson's performance falls flat due to the predictable story and lack of fresh ideas.
